Kenya’s death toll to COVID-19 increased to 456 on Wednesday, August 12, after 18 more patients succumbed to the respiratory disease.
While announcing the new developments, Health Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Mercy Mwangangi revealed among those who succumbed was Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) director of corporate services Kamau Mugenda.
Over the past 24 hours, Mwangangi said the number of positive cases in the country had hit 28,104 after 679 more people were diagnosed with COVID-19.
“Five patients who died in the last 24 hours had pre-existing conditions. A 55-year-old woman who was hypertensive died at home,” said Mwangangi who continued to urge Kenyans to exercise caution to ward off the disease.
They were identified following examination of some 6,590 samples which pushed the cumulative number of samples screened so far by the ministry to 369,091
